New Multiplayer Maps and Modes Arrive in Season 1
Activision has announced that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 Season 1 will release on November 6, bringing several new multiplayer maps and modes to Xbox, PlayStation, and PC platforms. Players will be able to explore three new maps at launch: Backstab, a war-torn environment littered with abandoned tanks and drone ordinance; Canyon, featuring towering rock walls with areas like Convoy Ambush and Cliff Path; and a reimagined Shoot House set in snow-covered North Korea.
The update also reintroduces the fan-favourite Grind mode, where teams eliminate opponents and collect dog tags to score points, along with Drop Zone mode, which tasks players with holding a rotating objective while periodic Killstreak airdrops provide strategic advantages. Additional maps and modes, including the Ministry map set around a damaged embassy and the factory-farmland map Overflow, will arrive mid-season alongside the new Counter Attack mode focused on bomb detonation objectives.
DMZ Expansion with New X01 Weapon Facility
Season 1 adds a new location to the DMZ experience: the X01 weapons facility. This formerly hidden complex has been overtaken by enemy forces, featuring a maze-like network of tunnels and environmental hazards. Players will require teamwork, specialised gear, and tactics to navigate the facility and complete objectives. Extraction points will gradually close off, requiring players to strategise their escape before time runs out.
The update includes new DMZ Orders related to X01, a Threat Briefing to confront powerful Boss enemies known as Commanders, and fresh Resupply Runs. These additions expand the DMZ mode’s tactical demands and mission variety.
Expansion of Warzone and Weapon Arsenal
In addition to Modern Warfare 4 content, the Season 1 update introduces two new Warzone maps—Hajin and Zodiac—along with further game modes and features. Activision has indicated that more detailed plans for Warzone Season 1 will be released ahead of the update’s deployment.
The Season 1 Battle Pass includes over 100 unlockable items, with new weapons such as the Cronen Osprey Assault Rifle, offering balanced speed and power for frontline combat, and the CSG-35 SMG, distinguished by the highest fire rate in its class for close-range engagements. The Battle Pass implements a catch-up system where players purchasing the premium pass after launch will advance instantly to current seasonal milestones up to day 50. The progression track has been simplified to a linear 100-tier format featuring Operator Skins, Weapon Blueprints, Finishing Moves, and other customisation options.
