Metro Redux Next-Gen Update Released for Xbox Series X|S with 4K and 120fps Support

4A Games and publisher Deep Silver have launched the Metro Redux next-generation update for Xbox Series X|S. Available now as a free update, it enhances Metro 2033 and Metro: Last Light Redux with improved graphics, performance, and controller features, specifically optimised for Xbox’s latest hardware.

The update allows players to experience both titles in native 4K resolution at 60 frames per second, or an upscaled 4K presentation at a smoother 120fps. This represents a significant boost from previous Xbox One versions, utilising techniques such as 4A’s Temporal Super Resolution upscaling and anti-aliasing enhancements to deliver sharper image quality.

Enhanced Visual and Performance Features for Xbox Series X|S

Alongside the frame-rate improvements, the update brings upgraded textures, a refined lighting and shadow system that affects the game’s environments remarkably, and better animation quality. These visual upgrades aim to preserve the mood of the original games while modernising their presentation for current hardware.

Support for Xbox Series X and Series S controllers includes haptic feedback through the impulse triggers, adding a tactile layer to the in-game action. This integration utilises the controller’s capabilities to heighten immersion in Metro’s atmospheric world.

Cross-Platform and Accessibility Updates

The Metro Redux update also supports Xbox Play Anywhere, enabling players to carry progress and play across Xbox consoles and Windows 10/11 PCs. Additionally, the update is optimised for the Xbox All-Digital Edition consoles, expanding accessibility for players without physical discs.

The enhancements come ahead of the announced debut of Metro 2039 on 4 February 2027, offering both new and returning players a chance to explore the Metro universe with improved visuals and smoother gameplay before the next mainline entry launches.

The Metro Redux bundle includes the full campaigns of Metro 2033 and Metro: Last Light, along with all previously released downloadable content. The games maintain their original narrative and gameplay design, including the option to switch between ‘Spartan’ and ‘Survival’ play styles, and feature the returning Ranger Mode for a more challenging experience.

Since its first release in 2010, the Metro series has accumulated over 50 million players worldwide. The Redux versions have served as remastered editions of the core titles, and this next-gen update marks a further step in optimising the franchise for current-generation consoles.
