Wipeout-Inspired Controlled Quantum Levitation

You’ve got to love it when videogames and film inspire science and technology. Science bods at the Japan Institute of Science and Technology have been inspired by the game Wipeout whilst working on the technology of quantum levitation – so much so they have built a special track, and with a little liquid nitrogen injected into the scaled-down ships, you’ll see them floating around the track before your very eyes. Next generation of Scalextric anyone?

With this new technology, these bods hope to revolutionize the world of motor transport. Butdon’t hold your breath, it will be some time before we will be seeing Team AG Systems lining up on the racing grid.
