Activision has confirmed that the brand new Tony Hawk game which will ‘reinvent’ the series will be released on the Xbox 360 and PS3, ‘later this year’.
A company called RoboModo will help develop the console versions which will focus around a wireless skateboard controller.
Tony Hawk himself announced the news on his Twitter where he was rather impressed by the technology behind the board. It features an accelerometer and sensors which will track and mimic a players movement in-game. Thankfully for those of us who suck on the real thing, it won’t have wheels!
Hand and feet movement is essential so the board can sensor grabs, kicks and pushes which propel the player forwards. The accelerometer will help gauge movement for 180 degree spins and manuals. It sounds like the real thing, but on the floor!
Marketer for Activision, Rob Kotisch belives the board is a “massive step forward” for the entire industry.
“Throw the controller out and just stand on the board and it responds to every motion,” Hawk told GameTrailers. “It responds to you grabbing it, to you kicking it up, to you turning it one way or another… It’s like you’re really skating but on a blank deck on the carpet.”
The game will allow beginners to make use of the accessory without feeling left out because they are unable to perform advanced tricks. Head onto expert mode though and you’ll need to know how to skate ‘properly’.
It won’t feature any control movement at all and so expect a price tag around £70, as with all the other plastic accessories we acquire these days.
