Silicon Knights sues Epic

Silicon Knights have filed a breach of contract lawsuit against Epic Games.

Epic’s VP Mark Rein released a statement saying:
“We were served with a lawsuit by Silicon Knights. We believe the claims against us are unfounded and without merit and we intend to fully defend against them. We’d love to tell you more about it but unfortunately our lawyers want us to save our comments for the courthouse so we’re going to do our best to comply with their wishes. In that vein we’d appreciate if our friends in the industry and media would refrain from asking us about the suit because we’re only going to say “no comment”. We just wanted to share the news directly before the rumor mill starts churning.”

The suit alleges that Epic provided Silicon Knights with the final development kit of Unreal Engine 3 for Xbox 360 seven months after Epic were obliged to do so. Silicon Knights also accuse Epic of not providing adequate to UE3 licensee’s and instead, concentrated it’s efforts on developing it’s own titles, Gears of War and Unreal Tournament III.

Silicon Knights also hinted that they are not using their own engine in developing their current project Too Human. You can read more on the lawsuit over at Gamasutra. We’ll keep you posted on further development.
