Still revelling in the glow of Rockstar’s recent masterpiece, Grand Theft Auto V, it’s hard not to hear any snippet of news about gaming’s golden boys without sensing somewhat of a warm glow, together with a tingle of anticipation. Whatever could be next? With the knowledge that GTA V was in the pipeline since before the release of GTA IV, we know there’s something rumbling deep in the bowels of Rockstar HQ, but if we needed any further confirmation, here it is, in the form of a rather vague reference on the LinkedIn profile of one of Rockstar’s Senior Graphics Engineers.
The profile mentioned he was presently at on ‘the next version of a famous IP’, though this seems to since have vanished from the online listing. Whilst this is fully open to speculation, the best bets would probably lie with the Red Dead series, which seems due another visit after its massive commercial and critical success last time out (read our review), or perhaps, as web speculation has been suggesting, Bully. A wildcard bet could lie with it being the next instalment in the Manhunt series, and if anyone would have the stones to go back to such a controversial IP, it would be Rockstar, but personally my fingers are crossed for a return to the Wild West. Let’s just hope it wasn’t an out of date listing referring to GTA V.
Rockstar and parent company Take Two are notoriously reluctant to drop any serious hints until they’re good and ready, so it’s just conjecture we have to look forward to until the time is right.
