Backstories for Ryse: Son of Rome

With the calendar and clock edging ever nearer to the UK launch of Xbox ONE on November 22nd, everyone seems to be excited – but for different reasons. Of the launch titles ushering in this new generation, a new standard for console based gaming, Crytek’sRyse: Son of Rome is grabbing my attention the most.

For a start, I’m a sucker for swords, axes and all that jazz, frequently daydreaming of the days of yore, where fair maidens with long hair resided in towers and fine steel and a grand horse – and of course honour – were all that truly mattered. The only thing better than games based in the age of chivalry, for me, are games based in the times of the ancients, and Ryse looks to be slashing and stabbing holes through all my checkboxes on that front.

The graphics are looking wonderful and I cannot at all wait to get my hands on a copy. For any of you looking to whet your tastebuds in the gulf leading up to release, some video back stories have been released for two of the game’s characters.

Sam Finch

Sam has been unable to peel his bloodshot eyes and RSI-ridden wrists from the world of gaming since he was first introduced to it, like all good junkies, by his Grandad. From those early days of MegaDrive sweetness, bashing through the throngs of enemies on Shining Force II, his love of all things games has extended upwards and outwards onto a variety of platforms. You can either believe that spiel, or get the real scoop and know that his spaceship actually crashed here some years ago and he is currently incognito as a games writer for Console Monster.
