No ‘Blu-ray’ for Xbox 360

Microsoft has denied that Blu-ray technology could be implemented on the Xbox 360.

It follows an interview yesterday, whereby Steve Ballmer was quizzed over the possiblity of Blu-ray for the 360.

However Major Nelson has confirmed on his blog that Microsoft has no plans to bring Blu-ray to the console.

In it he says:

“I wanted to clear something up. Steve was referring to Blu-ray accessories for the PC”

Of course he was Major.

Mr Nelson continued: “As we have said in the past, we have no plans to introduce a Blu-ray drive for the Xbox 360. In fact, the future of home entertainment starts very soon when Xbox 360 becomes the first and only console to offer instat-on 1080p streaming of HD movies”.

So there we have it, Blu-ray won’t be coming to the Xbox 360, so you best get saving for a PS3 instead.

The new 1080p streaming service launches with the new Xbox Live update, you can read our Ants thoughts elsewhere on the site.
