After going into administration in December, Zavvi yesterday announced the closure of 18 stores but rival high-street retailer, HMV, have purchased fourteen of them, which are said to be in locations where HMV has little or no presence.
The purchase comes after HMV announced their sales had climbed by 2.9% since the end of November 2008. The expected cost of the stores is £2 million, which includes the necessary rebranding of each store. It is also expected that 269 employee’s jobs will be saved, because of the purchase.
