Gran Turismo 7 Spec IV Update to Launch in Two Parts with New Circuits and Family Mode

Sony has confirmed that the Spec IV update for Gran Turismo 7 will be rolled out in two stages later in 2026, beginning in October and concluding in December. The update is intended to mark the lead-up to the 30th anniversary of the original Gran Turismo in 2027 and brings a range of new content to the racing simulation.

The October release will introduce the Sportsland SUGO circuit from Japan, noted for its elevation changes and familiar trackside landmarks like the Dunlop bridge. The December update will add Autumn Ring, a circuit with historical significance, having first appeared in the very first Gran Turismo title. This reintroduction allows players to experience a classic track within the latest iteration.

New Cars and Competitive Features

Across both Spec IV updates, a total of 12 new cars will be added, though the exact models have yet to be disclosed. Alongside these vehicles, new competitive modes will expand online play. Online Drift Trials will offer players the opportunity to test precision driving and style, while Shuffle Races introduce randomised conditions aimed at varying race strategies.

The update will also enhance the driving experience with new Driving Experiences, an expanded Car Viewer, additional progression elements, and a Concierge feature to assist with car purchases. Details on these features will be released in due course.

Family Mode to Make Gran Turismo 7 More Accessible

Included in the December update is Family Mode, designed to provide a more accessible starting point within Gran Turismo 7. This mode targets players of differing skill levels, enabling family and friends to enjoy the game together. Sony describes Family Mode as a way to open up the driving and car culture experience without excluding newcomers or less experienced players.

Further information about the specifics of both Spec IV updates will be shared during Gran Turismo World Series Round 3 in Singapore on October 3. This event promises additional reveals regarding the cars, circuits, and features coming in late 2026.

These updates apply primarily to PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 players, given Gran Turismo 7’s platform exclusivity. With these additions, the game continues to add content several years post-launch, maintaining engagement ahead of the franchise’s 30th anniversary.
