The Kinect was pretty much the star of Microsofts E3 show at Los Angeles. Now further news from Microsoft stating that the companys main focus will be for all first-party Microsoft games to employ the Kinect camera.
“It’s not a mandate that everything we do in first-party has to support Kinect right now,” Spencer told GameSpot. “But I will say, specifically with voice, that there are some things that just seem to make navigating and playing games so much easier, that I would guess the answer will be yes in the end, that you’ll see all first-party games using some form of Kinect functionality.”
E3 showed us that the Kinect would be used in such titles as Forza 4 and Mass Effect 3, using the peripheral for many tasks including weapon customisation and voice control. EA Sports have also said that the Kinect will be used with Madden as part of a new voice command play calling system, although that won’t be seen until 2012, if not later.
This is a bold move by Microsoft, they are almost force feeding the Kinect to gamers and this new statement almost seems like a threat. As if to say ‘if you don’t have a Kinect you’re gona miss out on a lot of games’. We hope that they don’t forget about Kinect-less gamers in the future.
