Ubisoft has launched The Most Requested Update for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One, introducing New Game+, new resources, and enhancements to gear and runes. This free patch arrived on 5 November 2026 and targets players seeking extended endgame content and improved progression options.
The update unlocks New Game+ once the player completes the Holy Day Quest, allowing a replay of the main adventure with character progression carrying over. To maintain challenge, enemy difficulty scales with each New Game+ iteration, offering a fresh experience.
New resources and gear progression expanded
A new resource called Mithril has been added, usable for upgrading divine gear. Mithril can be obtained during New Game+ through various means, including acquiring gear, interacting with owned Books of Knowledge, and from vendors within Nilfheim and other locations. The maximum upgrade level for gear has increased from 13 to 27, significantly extending character customisation possibilities.
In addition, Wealth Chests in New Game+ have had their contents adjusted, with Carbon, Nickel, and Tungsten replaced by Platinum, simplifying resource management in the extended mode. The update also introduces an Extended Progression mode where upgrades to gear, runes, and masteries contribute collectively to the player’s overall power, supporting deep character development.
Rune Forge enhancements and storage system
The patch brings significant improvements to the Rune Forge system. Players can now upgrade runes to a new Superior tier using silver directly from the menu, expanding rune power options. More than 300 new engravable runes have been added, increasing build variety and customisation to a large extent.
A Stash feature has also been implemented in Ravensthorpe, enabling players to store gear and runes separate from their main inventory. This provides better organisation and easier access to equipment during extended play sessions.
According to Lead Game Designer David Larouche, the update was developed with heavy input from the community, particularly responding to demand for New Game+ functionality. The team aimed to ensure that replaying Valhalla felt rewarding rather than repetitive, prompting the inclusion of extended progression, advanced gear upgrades, and comprehensive rune enhancement options that are available both in New Game+ and the standard game.
Despite Valhalla’s final content update releasing years earlier, Ubisoft confirmed the commitment to support the player base through meaningful expansions such as this. The Most Requested Update is positioned as a way to give returning players a chance to revisit Eivor’s journey with new challenges and developmental depth.
The Most Requested Update for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is currently available on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One, adding substantial post-launch content for players invested in the Viking-themed action RPG.
