Let's Finish 2010 [40]

Let’s Finish 2010 [40]

At the start of 2010 I saw an interesting article over at Kotaku where writer Stephen Totilohas created a list over the course of 2009 for all the games he had completed, 48 it totalled. Being a large fan of nostalgia and being able to look back at fond memories of gaming past I decided to steal this idea for myself. Couple with this the fact that I have a very understanding family.

As the list is a fantastic motivation to finish games instead of stopping early, I’ll be calling the list and article ‘Let’s Finish’. So, my Let’s Finish of 2010 stands at 40 titles.

Disclaimer: Game ‘completion’ is marked as seeing a stories conclusion to the end, having credits roll or finishing the game’s final level. It’s not a certain measurement, but a degree of sensibility is used to define it. The games have in no way been 100%’d, although given my gamerscore whoring nature some aren’t far off.

I admittedly faltered with the list on and off for the first half of the year and didn’t step up fully tracking and finishing titles until the second half. With a backlog triple the size of this list, and a handful of games already in motion, I expect a target of at least 50 games for 2011 will be a certain success.

Highlight of the year: Metal Gear Solid 3. Whilst titles such as Heavy Rain, Metal Gear Solid 4, VVVVVV and Minecraft took a good chunk of my time and admiration, the initial months of 2010 saw me complete my Metal Gear marathon. I couldn’t name another series that even nearly rivals it, and the set pieces, characters, orchestral soundtrack and goose bump enduring conclusion of Snake Eater places it at the pinnacle of the lot in my opinion.

Here’s to a game heavy 2011! See you in a year.
