Microsoft’s marketing blog Gamerscoreblog.com has announced that Xbox 360 consoles modified or hacked to play illegal copies of games are now being detected and banned from the Xbox Live network.
This ties in with a flurry of reports across various internet forums of users receiving an error message stating that their console’s ID has been banned, many of these admitting to having modified their consoles, others claiming otherwise.
Similar steps were taken on the original Xbox, shortly before the release of Halo 2 in 2004.
The timing of this suggested that it was the Halo 3 Multiplayer Beta itself which was detecting the modified consoles, but there have also been reports of users being banned without having downloaded the demo.
