Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has stated that he believes, in time, the Wii could exceed to the sales of the PS2 and become the most popular games console ever. Speaking to the Reuters, Iwata said:
“Sony’s PS2 sales of 100 million units is an extraordinary number that our home game console business has not achieved, But if we can make our bid to expand the gaming population a continued success, we could exceed that.”
Since it’s launch back in 2000, the PS2 has shipped nearly 120 million units worldwide. The Wii has sold 5.84 million units globally by May 2007.
