The Nintendo Wii came out in the race for sales in January in the US. The Big N’s new console sold 436,000 units according to the NPD Group. The Xbox 360 came in second with 294,000 units with the PS3 not too far behind with 244,000 units.
Worringly for Microsoft though is that the Xbox 360 sold almost a million less units than it did in December 2006, however, this could easily be put down to the end of the Christmas rush. The Wii’s sales figures where down a little more than 150,000 while the PS3 sales were more than double the January figures in December.
Microsoft won’t be too disappointed though as the figures are up 18% compared to January 2006.
