Each month of the year our regular staff members come together to tell you what each of them have been playing over the past few weeks, we like to call this our Monster Month. Read on to find out what each of us have been playing over the month, as well as give an insight in the games we are looking forward to playing in the coming month.

You can hear Santa coming
Time is flying, that’s for sure. It’s the end of October which means only two things. Less than 9 weeks until Christmas, but more importantly, only two week until my birthday. I also plan on taking the plunge and shell out for an Xbox ONE. There’s certainly some good deals to be had so I’ll be scouting the market from now on in. Anyway, enough abut the future, what games have I been playing this past month?
Unsurprisingly not a lot of gaming has taken place within the month of October, and this has mainly been down to me getting a promotion at work (go me!!). Promotion means more work and I’m finding that I’m knackered when I get home so I just want to cabbage on the couch and watch TV. Where time permits, A.K.A. the weekends, I have however been playing the amazing 3 on 3 NHL on the Xbox LIVE Arcade. It’s a great game to play with friends and we even turn it into a drinking game, which can escalate fast. Apart from that I’m really just looking forward to Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare and also the Halo release in November.

October provides more treats than tricks
The clocks going back in October gave me the opportunity to spend some time playing through the new additions to my gaming collection.
Unsurprisingly, FIFA 15 has kept me well and truly occupied, as I attempt to build my dream team and take them to Ultimate Team glory. However, I did manage to drag myself away from it to write the Console Monster review of the title.
Another game I reviewed this month was D4: Dark Dreams Don’t Die – an episodic video game in which you play a private investigator whose wife was murdered. As a huge fan of crime dramas, I thoroughly enjoyed it and the well thought out achievement list has seen me return to the title numerous times throughout October.
Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition also received significant playtime this month. Having played through the original version a year ago, it felt too soon to be returning to the title. Needless to say, it’s still brilliant. Not convinced? Read the Console Monster review.
Finally, I’ve been particularly impressed with October’s Games with Gold offerings. The Xbox One title Chariot is an interesting concept that has been well executed. If it wasn’t for the Games with Gold promotion, it’s highly unlikely that this would have got a look in. Meanwhile, Battlefield: Bad Company 2 has received some playtime on the Xbox 360 – a game I missed out on when it was first released.
Looking ahead to November, Halo: The Master Chief Collection is the title that stands out. Being a big fan of the series, I’m looking forward to playing through them again on the Xbox One. Assassin’s Creed: Unity and Assassin’s Creed: Rogue are also on my wish list (bank balance permitting, of course).

So Many Shivers Up The Spine
Kicking off this month with admirable style was Midde-Earth: Shadow of Mordor, my review for which can be found here. fusing the best aspects of action-adventure with Tolkien’s rich and textured mythology. Marrying some derivative aspects together, notably general gameplay features similar to those found in Assassin’s Creed and a combat system almost a direct transplant from the Arkham games, Shadow of Mordor’s artistry was not necessarily in its originality but in its talent for mixology. Not your favourite musician so much as your favourite radio DJ, weaving together the best of the best into one enjoyable package.
As we moved through the month, Halloween drawing ever closer as the nights came in earlier, things started to get a bit spooky, with The Creative Assembly’s Alien Isolation (REVIEW HERE) and Tango Gameworks’ (Shinji Mikami’s new studio) The Evil Within (REVIEW HERE), dropping in quick succession. Heart rate through the roof, Alien Isolation provided particularly viscous tension, whilst The Evil Within brought with it a celebration of all things horror, an ecstatic romp through the spine tingling tropes of video game and cinema history.
A month that also saw the enchanting platform-puzzlerChariot(REVIEW HERE) come out on Xbox Live Games With Gold, this October has been a good one and things only promise to get better in the run up to Christmas.

Tank God The Summer Drought Is Over!
Looking back to the last two months in gaming, it all seems a bit of a blur. This is probably because there hasn’t been that much to shout about as we come to the end of the summer drought in gaming.
The one thing that remains consistent though is my game time with World of Tanks Blitz on iOS. The free-to-play mobile MMO title still manages to pull me in most days as I grind my way up to Tier X. So far I am currently at Tier 8 of the tank destroyer German tech tree line. It has been a bit of a grind to max my Ferdinand out, but I am nearly there. Update 1.4 releases on 5th Nov, so hopefully there will be more fun to be had, and hopefully they’ll fix the enhanced graphics issue for my early birthday present – an iPad Air 2.
This month on Console Monster we’re getting more active in the video domain. You’ll be seeing a lot more videos from us over on our YouTube Console Monster Channel and regular live streams on Twitch and also on YouTube too. So be sure to subscribe to be alerted when we go live.
I’ll be doing more ‘chasing stars’ streams in DriveClub, for anyone still undecided on purchasing the full version, and I’ll no doubt be joining our team of streamers this month with footage from Far Cry 4 and Assassin’s Creed Unity, both out this month. I cannot wait!

Spooky Scary Games
This last month was mostly spent playing the ever-so-spooky The Evil Within. While the title wasn’t what I was expecting, I must say I very much enjoyed it. It’s the closest thing to an old school horror game that we’ve gotten in quite some time. I also delved into a bit of Alien: Isolation, which I loved at first, but as time drew on I found it to be more annoying than scary.
I also hit up the new Borderlands title The Pre-Sequelwhich I’ve gotta say I found extremely underwhelming when compared to past releases. Another title I pounced on was the new Persona 4 Arena title which of course I loved, and to be totally honest with you, I just can’t get enough Persona 4.
Coming up next month are a few titles that have my attention; Binding of Issac Rebirth, Little Big Planet 3, and of course the next-gen release of GTAV. As much as I don’t like supporting these next gen ports, I just can’t say no to Grand Theft Auto.
