The Witcher 3: Remastered Launches September 29 with Xbox Play Anywhere and FSR 4.0 Support

CD Projekt RED has confirmed that The Witcher 3: Remastered will launch on September 29, 2026, delivering a significant free upgrade for players who already own the base game. The remaster introduces Xbox Play Anywhere support, enabling cross-play between Xbox Series X|S and the Xbox Ally handheld device, as well as adding AMD FSR 4.0 technology optimised for the Xbox Ally’s hardware.

This release affects players on all major platforms where The Witcher 3 is available, including GOG, Steam, Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2. The upgrade includes both major expansions, Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine, and is available at no extra cost to players who own the existing version.

New Features and Platform Enhancements

The remaster introduces an array of gameplay and technical improvements. Combat has been refined with new finishing moves and skills, while traversal benefits from more intelligent vaulting and platforming mechanics. Visuals have been overhauled with enhanced lighting and spell effects, and monster AI has been improved to incorporate new moves, adding depth to encounters.

Additional enhancements include a revamped horse-riding experience, a complete redesign of the skill tree similar to Cyberpunk 2077’s system, and introduction of armour transmogrification. The update also brings quality-of-life improvements like an upgraded photo mode, better looting systems, modernised tutorials, HDR support, and a refreshed user interface.

On the technical side, high-end PC versions gain support for DLSS 4.5, path tracing, and raytraced hair technology. For the Xbox Ally, FSR 4.0 integration is designed to significantly boost performance and visual fidelity. The addition of Xbox Play Anywhere support means save data and progress will be shared seamlessly between compatible Xbox devices.

Availability and Expansion Plans

The Witcher 3: Remastered is available for pre-purchase on Battle.net as part of CD Projekt RED’s wider strategy to expand the platform to third-party games. The remaster will also launch on Nintendo Switch 2, marking a new platform arrival for the title.

Looking ahead, CD Projekt RED has teased a new expansion for The Witcher 3 named Songs of the Past, set to release in 2027. This will be the third and final major expansion, taking Geralt to a new region called Letten with fresh enemies and gameplay mechanics.

CD Projekt RED also confirmed The Witcher 4 is in development with a 2028 release window, but provided no further details regarding its gameplay or platforms.

The September 29 launch of The Witcher 3: Remastered marks a notable update for the game across all platforms, enhancing both the technical and gameplay experience while providing enhanced compatibility for Xbox users through the new Play Anywhere support.
