The Elder Scrolls 6: Sentinel Gets Official Name and New Trailer After Eight Years

Xbox and Bethesda have officially confirmed the full title of the next Elder Scrolls entry as The Elder Scrolls 6: Sentinel and released a new trailer, nearly eight and a half years after the original teaser announcement. This update was shared on 3 November 2026, marking almost 15 years since The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim was launched.

The new footage offers a brief look at the game’s setting, highlighting the desert region of Hammerfell within Tamriel, and features detailed sand physics. The reveal was accompanied by narration attributed to a character named Yazar, Moth Priest to High Queen Iradne, giving insight into the game’s themes surrounding time, history, and the lore of the Elder Scrolls.

Details on The Elder Scrolls 6 Setting and Narrative

The announcement confirms The Elder Scrolls 6 will take place in Hammerfell, a location previously speculated upon in recent reports. The game is expected to explore the history and mysteries surrounding the series’ iconic Elder Scroll artifacts.

A statement included with the reveal reflects on Bethesda Game Studios’ four decades of RPG development, thanking fans for their ongoing support. This comes amid recent organisational changes at Xbox Game Studios, including significant staff reductions at Bethesda earlier in 2026.

Long Wait and Industry Context

The original teaser trailer for The Elder Scrolls 6 was shown at E3 in 2018. Since then, updates have been scarce, with Bethesda opting for a cautious approach to public communication. Bruce Nesmith, Skyrim’s lead designer, previously noted that Bethesda delayed further reveals to avoid premature hype, citing industry challenges with early announcements.

This approach echoes Bethesda’s strategy for Fallout 4, where the game was only widely promoted shortly before release. The new name and trailer for Sentinel suggest Bethesda may be preparing for a more detailed unveiling, possibly aligned with The Game Awards 2026 scheduled for 10 December.

As of now, The Elder Scrolls 6: Sentinel remains confirmed for PC and Xbox Series X/S platforms. No release date has been announced, although the recent trailer marks the most significant update since the title’s initial reveal nearly a decade ago.
