Sony to merge UK/US SingStores – future releases universal

SCEA today confirmed its decision to unify both US and UK SingStores — the online music store for popular karaoke series, Singstar.

Having fixed its licensing difficulties with Universal Music, players will now be able to enjoy simultaneous content in both territories:

“Moving forward, SingStar updates will be one and the same for both stores, and fans in the US will have access to the same great music and artists as our friends across the pond,” revealed Sony.

“In addition to delivering new Universal content to the SingStore, we’ll also be going back and releasing tons of songs in large updates that previously have only been available on the European SingStore as our way of thanking you for your patience as we worked to negotiate this contract.”

According to Sony, back-catalogue updates will begin on December 15, with more than 64 songs hitting the US store alone. For more details, check out the original PS Blog entry here
