Sonic will return to his 16-bit routes as Sega has announced this morning what its ‘Project Needlemouse’ is all about.
Sonic The Hedgehog 4 will launch on PS3 and Xbox 360 as a download only title later this Summer. It’ll be 2D but in glorious 1080p HD. The PS3 version will also support the rarely used Six-axis motion control.
Ken Balough from Sega, told GameSpot, that the game is set after Megadrive title Sonic & Knuckles and will see Sonic equipped with a new homing attack alongside the spin dash and running sneakers.
Balough also said it’ll be part of a series of Episodes, with the sub-title being “Episode 1”.
“When SEGA released Sonic 3, ultimately it was the part one of a story that saw its conclusion in Sonic & Knuckles. In that same spirit, Sonic the Hedgehog 4 is a bigger story, and this is that first chapter,” he commented.
Sonic will be the only character playable in the game. More footage and images are due to be released in the next few weeks.
