Smash Bros. Brawl goes online!

Today it was revealed, despite much concern, that the upcoming Super Smash Bros. Brawl for the Wii will infact support WiFi play. The news was revealed by Masahiro Sakurai on the official Smash Bros blog, with the following various details.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl can be played over the Nintendo WiFi Connection, you can play with friends, or with anyone. When playing with friends, once you have registered each other (friend codes) you can see each other’s online status in game, and ask for a match. When playing you can even send each other a selection of short messages.

But when playing with anyone you can not see there name, and no messages will be displayed. This move is no doubt related to protecting minors from any unpleasant experiences and making the online portion of the game truly accessible to all ages.

Currently only a standard brawl mode was shown for online, but the blog promises that more modes will be revealed.
Will you be brawling online?
