A small group of hardcore Shenmue fans are working hard on converting the original two titles into the Unreal 4 Engine. Bringing new visuals, tweaked camera work, and even adding more classic arcade games via emulation. The “Shenmue Dragon and Phoenix Collection” has set out to bring the beloved games into the future. The name stems from the team’s plan of offering both the original and updated version to be packaged together for all to enjoy.

As you may know, I’m a huge fan of the Shenmue series, and I’m all for anything that preservers and/or brings more players into the wonderful world that Yu Suzuki created. While I’m not personally that interested in the updated graphics, I think the idea is novel and extremely impressive. I can’t wait to see what becomes of this, and what secrets they will uncover while dismantling the original games.
