And the train keeps moving, despite Microsoft’s vehement denial. Ever since Blu-ray was declared the clear winner of the HD format war, Xbox folk have been hoping and praying that their console would adopt the technology and rope the Blu-ray drive into the system. Each rumor has been claimed false by Microsoft, but that doesn’t seem to slow them down.
This newest one comes from the eyes at engadget.com. It seems that a Chinese news source, Economic Daily News, has reported that (according to Engadget) “Pegatron, an OEM subsidiary of ASUS, has won the order from Microsoft to assemble the Xbox 360 with Blu-ray Disc ROM drive — shipments are expected to being in Q3 of this year.”
This suggests that the Blu-ray drive, if the rumor is true, will be built into the console and not sold as an attachment, leaving current 360 owners in a bit of an awkward situation. What will Microsoft do to calm the mobs? Time will tell. Perhaps plans will be unveiled at E3. Or maybe this is just another rumor.
