Rainbow Six Tactics Announced for Xbox Series X|S and PC as Turn-Based Strategy Game

Ubisoft has revealed Rainbow Six Tactics, a turn-based tactical single-player game set in the Rainbow Six universe, coming to Xbox Series X|S and Xbox on PC. The announcement was made during gamescom’s Opening Night Live and marks a departure from the franchise’s traditional first-person shooter format.

Players will assume the role of Six, leader of the Rainbow unit, commanding a squad of up to four Operators on global missions. The gameplay emphasizes planning, tactical execution, and adapting to evolving mission objectives in a turn-based format, while retaining core elements familiar to Rainbow Six fans.

Transitioning Rainbow Six Into Turn-Based Gameplay

Creative Director Elie Benhamou explained that switching from FPS to turn-based gameplay allowed the development team to preserve key franchise features such as intelligence gathering, careful planning, and high-stakes decision-making. The game maintains the distinct roles of Operators, now presented through slower-paced, methodical gameplay that prioritises strategy over reflexes.

The campaign will feature a roster of 15 Operators drawn from Rainbow Six Siege, each equipped with unique abilities, gadgets, and skill trees. This roster enables players to customise their squads and approach missions with different tactical combinations. Between missions, players can train Operators, analyse intelligence, and enhance their team’s capabilities.

Gameplay Features and Mission Variety

Rainbow Six Tactics offers a diverse range of mission types, including hostage rescue, bomb defusal, and target elimination, spread across multiple international locations. The game also incorporates destructible environments reminiscent of Rainbow Six Siege, allowing players to create new lines of sight and breach points through walls and obstacles.

A notable gameplay mechanic is “The Breach,” which temporarily breaks the turn-based rhythm to enable a synchronized assault where all Operators act simultaneously. This feature blends the strategic planning of turn-based play with the dynamic, coordinated strikes that define Rainbow Six gameplay.

The inclusion of Operators familiar from Siege—such as Ash, Sledge, Nokk, and Montagne—along with their signature equipment and abilities, ties the title closely to the franchise’s established identity. Ubisoft emphasises that Rainbow Six Tactics aims to deliver the same strategic depth and intensity within a different gameplay style.

Rainbow Six Tactics is confirmed for release on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox on PC. Players can wishlist the title now on the Xbox Store to receive updates on its launch and availability.
