Couch co-op is sadly a dying breed. And while I’m all for online co-op, I am a man who likes options. Not to mention, it’s much easier to give mean glares to my friends when they are on the couch right next to me.
Enter Bonkies. A game that focuses on co-op stacking puzzles by utilizing flying space monkeys with giant robotic arms. You and up to three other cosmonauts will work together to build, align, and dismantle various structures throughout the campaign. The pieces, mostly blocks, have to be moved into highlighted areas and sit for a few seconds to “complete” the level. These blocks can be insanely heavy, and that’s where the teamwork comes into play.
Communication and teamwork are absolutely key when playing Bonkies. Things can go from calm and collected to insanity with a jet pack boost of one rouge monkey. It can be a bit irritating at times, but it usually ends with a few obscenities, and a good laugh.
If you’re looking for a fun, different, and legitimately challenging co-op game, give Bonkies a go. Just don’t expect to have as much fun playing solo. As it’s really designed to be played with friends.
