Project Spark Enters Open Beta

The oddly-shaped project from Team Dakota, Project Spark, has now entered open Beta on Xbox ONE and is available for free download via the store.

A peculiar and mysterious title, Project Spark certainly deserves the varied speculation it’s been receiving from the gaming community. Undoubtedly an idea absolutely bloated with potential, we will really have to wait until the final retail build ships to fully grasp what could potentially be on offer here. However, what is here certainly does whet the appetite.

After just a quick play with the ‘Crossroads’ game-creation tool, it definitely exhibits the potential that what is being planned here might have. By offering a canvas for gamers to create and share their own worlds, the developers of Project Spark might just be contributing to what could become a second wave of Indie Gaming’s rise from the ashes, broadening further the accessibility of the creative outlet. Just how expansive the tools on offer will prove remains to be seen, but we’ve got our greedy Console Monster eyes fixed on the future and our fingers crossed for something special with this one, lets just hope there’s something more than the poor-man’s Fable clone that the demo seemed to be channelling.

Sam Finch

Sam has been unable to peel his bloodshot eyes and RSI-ridden wrists from the world of gaming since he was first introduced to it, like all good junkies, by his Grandad. From those early days of MegaDrive sweetness, bashing through the throngs of enemies on Shining Force II, his love of all things games has extended upwards and outwards onto a variety of platforms. You can either believe that spiel, or get the real scoop and know that his spaceship actually crashed here some years ago and he is currently incognito as a games writer for Console Monster.
