Human Head Studios have revealed the first screens of the sequel to their gravity-bending 2006 FPS Prey.
For those who don’t remember, Prey followed the plight of Native American hero Tommy Tawodi when he, his girlfriend and his grandfather were abducted by aliens during a brutal invasion of Earth. Battling through the alien ship to save Jen, Tommy encountered all manner of slimy beasties – and portal technology several months before Valve turned it into a phenomenon.
Despite generally positive reviews, poor sales forced Human Head to re-examine the structure of the first game, completely redesigning the entire IP for the sequel. This time the narrative will follow Killian Samuels (seriously), a bounty hunter abducted from Earth and stranded on the planet Exodus.
Combining elements of Mirror’s Edge and The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena, Prey 2 will follow Samuels through an open world action game as he takes jobs, deals out ass-kickings and solves mysteries for the colourful natives.
If the RPG-lite mechanics mesh well with the open-world shooter framework, Prey 2 could be turn out to be one of 2012’s big hitters.
