Pre-Owned Games… 720 Says No

It seems the Microsoft are intent on creating the Xbo 720 so that there is no value to pre-owned games with each and every title having to be registered to one single console be it with activation codes or via online registartion (which begs the question as to what people without internet will do?)

Edge magazine also revealed that Microsoft will indeed make each of it’s new consoles instantly connect to the internet, and stay connected whilst powered up.

“It is believed that games purchased on disc will ship with activation codes, and will have no value beyond the initial user,” Edge reported.

Microsoft replied saying, “We do not comment on rumours or speculation,” a spokesman said. “We are always thinking about what is next for our platform, but we don’t have anything further to share at this time.”

This news will strike sour chords with games retailers such as GAME and GameStation as a reported £90 million was made last year via the second-hand market and some would argue it is the only reason we still have stores open today with the increased issue of price wars between shops and online stores.

This E3 we will hope to see the new 720, we will also be hoping for the keynote speaker to deny all these claims, because if confirmed it could be a bigger mistake than Microsoft first realise.
