EGX may have just come to a close for 2014 – you can read our coverage of this year’s event hereandhere–but the organisers are seizing the post event buzz to get some information about next year’s expo out under the public’s nose.
Earl’s Court is an exhibition centre of a dying breed, an old bugger to put it bluntly, and there was a whisper here and a rumour there at the event itself suggesting that EGX, the UK’s largest single gaming event (a fact that the organisers are loathe to have us forget), would be heading to Birmingham next year. Well now we have confirmation. In an official press-release sent today we are told:
“EGX – the UK’s biggest games event – has struck a multi-year deal to move to Birmingham’s NEC. Next year’s event will be the biggest EGX ever and takes place at the NEC from September 24th-27th2015″
Birmingham’s formidable eyesore, the NEC, new home to EGX from 2015.
And for punters worried about ticket prices and the travel implications of the move from London…
“EGX is also pleased to confirm that tickets for 2015 will remain frozen at this year’s prices and that it is already working with travel companies to deliver discounted train and coach packages for visitors to the show.”
So Earl’s Court is being put out to pasture by EGX, but London still maintains the indie branch of EGX, in EGX Rezzed,
“EGX Rezzed will take place fromMarch 12th-14th, 2015 at London’s Tobacco Dock, with the BAFTA Games Awards will be held at the venue on the first evening. Tickets for EGX Rezzed go on saletomorrowmorning.”
