New backwards compatible PS3 on the way?

A new PlayStation 3 model could be releasing in the very near future.

A new listing on the Japanese Sony website has a Charcoal Black 320GB PlayStation 3, which is smaller and weighs less than current models.

However, the biggest surprise is that the console will be backwards compatible with PlayStation 2 titles. The translated description reads:

This product, “PlayStation 2” are having a compatibility with proprietary software.
Video Software ※ BD (BD-ROM) content and the application of copyright protection technology (eg, broadcast) to enjoy in HD and BD are recorded, HDMI cable (sold separately) is required.

No release date is set in stone, although the website does state that the model will release “sequentially from the June 2011.”
