New 360 chipset for Red Elite

You may have noticed certain retail stores in the UK offering the Elite system for the nice wallet-friendly sum of £199. This is part of a clearance of the old Falcon chip stock of Elite 360’s.

But up until now, apart from Arcade consoles, none of them have included the new Jasper chipset which is supposed to be more reliable.

However Major Nelson has today let it slip that the upcoming Resident Evil 5 Limited Edition console will be the first set of Elite’s to use the new hardware revision.

The telltale sign is that the Jasper consoles are supplied with a 150W power supply whereas the previous Falcon models had 175W and the original Xenon systems had a monstrous 203W power supply.

Jasper consoles include a 65nm CPU and GPU alongside 256MB of on-board flash memory.

“Some folks have asked about the power supply,” Larry ‘Major Nelson’ Hryb said in his video of the new bundle. “The power supply is y… it’s a 150W Xbox 360 power supply,” he said as he showed the camera.

The units were manufactured in January and will start filtering into the system as soon as the Red console is launched on March 13th. It is relatively difficult to notice which are the revised consoles unless you are assisted by a tech-savvy retail assistant.
