The next installment in the Need for Speed franchise has now been given a release date. Need for Speed: Shift will release on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in Europe on 18th September 2009. Gamers across the pond will have to wait until 22nd September 2009 to get their copy of the game.

Shift takes the series in a new simulation-orientated direction for the first time, basing the experience around authentic cockpit views and real-world physics. The title is currently in development at Slightly Mad Studios, many of whom’s members were involved in the development of hardcore sim GT Legends and GTR 2.

I wasn’t to impressed by Need for Speed Undercover, so I think i’ll be waiting for a demo to be released before I commit to a purchase. Let us know if you plan to pre-order Shift by leaving a comment below!
