Microsoft wants to be first in the next next-gen console war

Microsoft wants to be first when it comes to the newest set of consoles being released in the future. Microsoft’s Robbie Bach had this to say:

“The last cycle for the original Xbox was a little shorter than typical (at four years). We started way late. If you take the question of whether it was the right thing to try to be first [with Xbox 360], the answer to that is definitely yes. It has given us a leg up in a number of places that are super important.”

He explains more:

“It has given us a leg up with game developers. It has given us a leg up from an economics perspective. It helped us expand Xbox Live quickly. At a strategy level, if you asked if we wanted to be first again, I would say yes.”

But when asked in an interview with Venture Beat when a new Xbox would be coming out, Bach dodged the question a bit and said, “Our view is we will be selling Xbox 360 for a long time.”

So there you have it, we may not know when the newest consoles will be coming out, but we do know that Microsoft wants to be first to release again. What do you all think? Will you be more wary of a new Xbox in the future because of all the problems the Xbox 360 had when it was first released? Or do you think that Microsoft will get their act together the next time around? Let us know.
