Microsoft had to ‘release an Xbox One SKU without a camera,’ says Sony

Sony always believed Microsoft would eventually have to release an Xbox One SKU without Kinect in order to match the PS4’s $399 price, head of Worldwide Studios America Scott Rohde told Ars.

“I think that, to be truthful, we always assumed that eventually they’d have to release a SKU without a camera,” he said. “So we were waiting for it to a degree, and we were ready for it.”

Speaking of the original $499 Xbox One price point, Rohde said that hearing the figure confirmed at E3 2013 left Sony celebrating the price advantage.
