Madden has held the top spot in the gaming world when it comes to American Football titles, but all that may be about to change if 2K have anything to say about it. Many were left distraught when they found out about EA’s agreement with the NFL which saw them as the ONLY company able to release a fully licensed NFL title. To make matters worse the juggernaut that is EA went on to gobble up the rights to the NCAA and Arena Football.
When EA compelted the deal with the NFL SEGA decided to shut its sporting shop if you will. They then proceeded to sell off Visual Concepts and Kush Games to Take-Two Interactive who then started creating NHL, MLB and NBA titles. With no sign of an NFL related game the future was looking bleak for 2K and American Football, that was until they eventually decided to reveal the all new All-Pro Football 2K8 which already looks set for a summer release.
The main question being who will fill up the rosters in the new game. The recently released Blitz: The League had the luxury of being able to make up completly fictional rosters and storylines. As for All-Pro 2K8 they will no doubt take a more serious approach to the game, will it be a case of copying PES and simply mispelling various player names, or will they try to cut a deal with EA. Only time will tell, but keep an eye out for news on how 2K get around the roster problem.
