According to 1UP, Microsoft has increased the size limit for Xbox Live Arcade titles from 50MB, to 250MB with a maximum of 450MB upon Microsoft approval. It comes after titles like Worms and Castlevania: Symphony of the Night were forced to appeal to Microsoft to be allowed to break the size limit (the former is set for extra downloadable content, while the latter will be available as a 96MB download).
However, if the move does turn out to be true, it could alienate 360 Core owners who would be forced to buy a HDD as many XBLA games will not fit onto the 64MB memory unit. A Microsoft spokesman said:
“Aside from the exception we granted for Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, we have not announced any plans to alter the file size standard for Xbox Live Arcade games. However, adjusting the size limit is certainly an option in the future, and as always, we are listening to feedback both from gamers and developers on what will provide the best user experience.
Whatever choice we make, we will hold a position that provides for the best possible Xbox Live Arcade gameplay experience.”
