The gaming community is still very much split on whether Kinect will be the gaming device of the future, or that it’s simply a glorified webcam. For those eager to get their hands on the device ahead of the launch, Microsoft has revealed a competition via Facebook, giving consumers the chance to experience controller free gaming in your local community.

The competition, named “Kinect Comes To You”, invites the public to submit their reasons as to why Kinect should come to their local town, school, village, road or even backyard. The panel of judges, made up of model Sophie Ellis Bextor, Stephen McGill Microsoft UK & Ireland’s Director of Xbox and Entertainment and Nick Burton, Executive Producer of Technology & Communications at Rare Studios, will pick the best entry submitted via the official Facebook site by 6th October 2010, and the winner can expect a visit sometime after that.

Nick Burton from Rare Studios promises it will be “a once-in-a-lifetime Kinect experience.”

Additionally, the UK Kinect Tour which launched in August 2010, has added some additional tour dates as follows:

  • Ireland National Ploughing Champs – September 20th – 26th
  • Liverpool City Centre – September 25th
  • Manchester – September 26th
  • Bristol – October 16th
  • Cardiff – October 17th
  • Edinburgh – October 30th
  • Glasgow – October 31st
  • Newcastle – November 13th
  • Leeds – November 14th

Kinect launches on 10th November 2010 at the price of £129. Will you be participating in the competition? Let us know in the comments.

Marty Greenwell

Marty has been gaming since the heady years of the ZX-81 and still owns most of the gaming systems purchased since those days, including the Atari 2600, ZX Spectrum, SNES, Jaguar, Dreamcast and GameCube. Being a collection junkie (or more accurately, hoarder), he buys more games than he can possibly play, far too many of which are still sealed in their packaging. Marty favours RPGs and Driving games when it comes to genres, and is possibly a little bit too addicted to Disgaea. When not gaming he’s out frightening OAPs on his motorcycle, clad in black leather.
