Killzone 2 will be receive a patch this morning which will be released via the PlayStation Network.
The developers have spoken about the changes; Eric Boltjes is the lead multiplayer designer for Killzone 2. He’s said it’ll be easier to find and play with friends online now. You’ll automatically join a friend’s faction and squad, even with the faction balancing left on and they are now persistant over multiple games.
Boltjes also said that all the badjes in Skirmish Mode will now unlock, so players down the ranks a bit will be able to experience the full range of weapons and abilities available in Warzone. That’s nice of them.
A new ‘High Precision’ option gives additional response on the analog sticks when making small movements. It isn’t a ‘radical overhaul’ however, just a little change.
You can switch factions manually now as well if they aren’t balanced, so you can swap sides during a match if the teams are uneven. Players from a smaller team cannot join a bigger one though, which is a nifty idea and you’ll keep any points from the opposition.
Spawning anywhere on the map aside from base camp will no longer grant you invulnerability, to ‘give players a fair chance’, Boltjes said.
Finally, the Badge abilities have changed; ‘Assault Badge’ was too powerful for many, so it has had its armour tweaked down from 100 hot points to 50.
Phew, if that has wetted your appetite to head back to Killzone 2, or even pick it up if you haven’t played it already, our Ant highly recommends it for you in his review.
