Ubisoft has released Ghost Recon Wildlands: Last Rites, a free update available now on Xbox Series X|S that introduces a new story-driven mission alongside a range of community-requested features. The update challenges players to confront a new antagonist, La Llorona, and her fanatical cult, Los Penitentes, who are causing chaos across Bolivia.
In addition to the new narrative content, Last Rites brings back the Predator encounter, a well-known and difficult boss fight from the original game. The update also introduces a suite of customisation options designed in response to player feedback, granting greater control over gameplay elements and difficulty settings.
New mission and gameplay customisation options
The Last Rites update expands the in-game customisation with features that enhance player freedom. Ubisoft Bordeaux’s Game Director Benjamin Rousseau Lemaire detailed additions such as options to hide impact and trajectory previews for throwable items and the shader on interactable objects. These visual elements can now also be silenced when their corresponding UI is hidden, responding directly to community preferences.
Players can access new ‘Ghost Parameters’ including tactical reloading, which causes magazine ammunition to be lost upon reload, setting the number of primary weapons to one or two, and adjusting the allowed revives before a game over. World and session settings have also been enhanced, allowing fixed time of day and weather conditions during sessions, as well as toggling enemy patrol rates, alarms, and SAM launcher behaviour.
Team composition controls have been improved to let players choose to have one to three AI teammates rather than simply toggling them all on or off. The update also revises difficulty options, letting players fine-tune individual parameters such as vehicle durability, enemy perception levels, and health regeneration timing.
Returning content and audio updates on Xbox Series X|S
Live Strategy & Analytics Director Yossef Benzeghadi confirmed the return of the Predator mission in its original form, citing it as a significant fan favourite. Last Rites also brings new audio themes associated with the new antagonist La Llorona and features voice performances from the original Ghost Recon Wildlands cast for English dialogue.
The new content and features apply specifically to Xbox Series X|S, with the update reflecting nearly a decade’s worth of player data and community insights gathered by Ubisoft. This makes Last Rites a notable expansion in terms of both story and player-driven customisation for console players on these platforms.
Ghost Recon Wildlands: Last Rites is available now as a free update exclusively for Xbox Series X|S players, revitalising the game with both new challenges and significant gameplay improvements tailored to player preferences.
