After their hugely marketed MMORPG Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures got a faceful of “meh” pie and a widespread shunning by the PC community for various failings in patching and implementation of features, it appears Funcom are ready to give it another go.
Set in a modern-day timeframe, The Secret World looks to be forging a blend of fantasy and sci-fi right on our doorsteps. From what I’ve seen of the screenshots, I am very much tickled with memories of Shadowrun, and as such am strongly anticipating the sweet, sweet mixture of guns and swords.
The graphics are looking fine, and with plenty of development time ahead before an as yet unannounced release date, they can only get better. As it stands, however, think Grand Theft Auto IV for some frame of reference.
I’m sure the screens would get this spiky fellow’s chops salivating in a flash
The rest of the screens, along with further game-specific features, can be found over at The Secret World’s wesbite, http://www.darkdaysarecoming.com/. A large-scale MMO on the 360 is an exciting prospect, but let’s not all hold our breaths just yet and give Funcom some room to try and get their old MMO hearts beating again.
