EA has confirmed that FIFA 10 is indeed a record-breaker, but we already knew that on Monday.
1.7 million copies were sold in Europe in the first week on sale, mainly thanks to heavy discounts of £25 on the RRP at most supermarkets. That makes it the biggest selling sports game ever and the biggest game EA have ever marketed. It also makes it the second fastest selling game ever. Impressive, no?
“We were confident that FIFA 10 would be a hit, and this week fans across Europe have shown just how much they love this game,” said Peter Moore, President of EA Sports. “We are incredibly proud of FIFA 10 and this kick-off for great, authentic football competition.”
The game still isn’t out in America yet, where it is due on October 20th, which will bolster numbers still (albiet on a smaller scale).
On the online side of things, record numbers have gathered with 10 million gaming sessions having being played since Friday. At the peak, 155,000 gamers were online at once.
