The latest entry in the fallout series has been steeped in controversy with the Fallout fan-base since it was announced that Bethesda, the team behind the Elder Scrolls series, had purchased the IP from Interplay who went bust in 2001, and would be developing their own sequel. ‘Oblivion with guns’, was the outcry. One of the original creators of Fallout went so far as to say that the sale of the series to Bethesda felt as if “our ex wife had sold our children that she had legal custody of…”.
Yesterday, Bethesda finally showed a very short teaser trailer using the game engine, which is based on that of the recent Elder Scrolls games Oblivion and Morrowind. The teaser ended by announcing the rough date of Autumn 2008.
US magazine Game Informer has revealed their Fallout 3 July cover, describing the long-awaited game as “a post-apocalyptic open-ended RPG that’s hitting the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 in 2008.”
