Episodic Content The Way Forward?

Telltale Games, veteran developers of episodically released games, including the phenomenon that is the multitude of Sam and Max series, says that the number of games released episodically is on the brink of a boom.

The recent triple transformation of Watchmen from graphic novel, to motion picture, to game is an example of the potential of episodically released games.

Dan Conners, CEO of Telltale, says that “a lot of big publishers” have been in touch with the company about collaborating on episodic games. With the recent release of Watchmen: The End Is Nigh, the devlopment of the episodic platform is evident and its future potential for growth undeniable. With episodic content, we could be looking at the next media through which the majority of games are released. For me, though, well…I like my trip down to the shop and a good half-hour browsing session.

Sam Finch

Sam has been unable to peel his bloodshot eyes and RSI-ridden wrists from the world of gaming since he was first introduced to it, like all good junkies, by his Grandad. From those early days of MegaDrive sweetness, bashing through the throngs of enemies on Shining Force II, his love of all things games has extended upwards and outwards onto a variety of platforms. You can either believe that spiel, or get the real scoop and know that his spaceship actually crashed here some years ago and he is currently incognito as a games writer for Console Monster.
