Epic Games are “humbling” over the great review scores Gears of War 2 has received in magazines and online. Mike Capps, president of Epic, told CVG how glad he was to see the game’s high ratings: “It’s really humbling to see such great review scores coming in so far, and we’re glad that reviewers have been excited about the many changes we’ve made in the sequel.”
The ‘metascore’ currently lies in at 95 out of 100 and rates Gears of War 2 as the fourth best Xbox 360 title of all time behind Grand Theft Auto IV (98%), Bioshock (96%) and The Orange Box (96%).
Capps continued: “But the real test is still to come — we can’t wait to get it into gamers’ hands on November 7th and see what they think!”
If Metacritic’s current user score is anything to go by, Capps is in for a nasty shock. Based on 3300 votes, the score is at a rather low 3.1/10. This has called for Metacritic to take action and from now on all scores and comments “will be reviewed and may be edited prior to posting.”
Marc Doyle, Games Editor at Metacritic, has also spoken out saying users should “focus your attention on the Metascore for this game and not the thousands of user votes, most of which have been submitted before said users have played the game.”
