The inspired PR and marketing manoeuvre played by Microsoft in releasing back catalogue titles for free to Gold members of Xbox Live proved a masterstroke, offering more value to those paying for the subscription service whilst also breathing new life into certain old titles, giving them an audience that more recent adopters of the Xbox 360 may otherwise have failed to encounter.
For all its wonder GwG did feel a tad of a damp squib this close to the end of the 360’s life cycle, and one could be forgiven for expecting it get pushed to the side and then ushered out of a back door into the gutter when Microsoft bring out their new toy, but it would appear this is not the case, with Microsoft vowing to continue supporting Games With Gold – that’s a freebie to be bagged every fortnight – beyond the launch of the Xbox One and into 2014.
Currently, until October 31st, bag Halo 3 at what feels like a five finger discount with Games With Gold!
