Blizzard has announced that Diablo 4’s next season, named Season of Hell’s Legacy, will go live on 15 September. The update coincides with the franchise’s 30th anniversary and introduces Diablo 4 to Nintendo’s upcoming Switch 2 console.
The season includes the return of key Diablo lore figure Deckard Cain and features a confrontation against the series’ three original Prime Evils: Diablo, Baal, and Mephisto. Players will battle these adversaries in classic locations familiar from previous entries—Tristram Cathedral, Arreat Summit, and the Durance of Hate.
New content and rewards in Season of Hell’s Legacy
Defeating each Prime Evil rewards players with a Soul Splinter, which grants the ability to harness powers from that demon. However, it also increases vulnerability to attacks associated with the corresponding Prime Evil. The update adds nine new Legacy Unique items to the game’s permanent roster, including the notable return of the Stone of Jordan.
Additionally, a set of enemy encounters called Waking Nightmares has been incorporated, recreating memorable moments from Diablo’s past. This content expands on Diablo 4’s ongoing support and broadens the series’ legacy within the game.
Switch 2 launch and future content plans
The Season of Hell’s Legacy update also marks Diablo 4’s launch on Nintendo Switch 2. The Switch 2 version is part of the Age of Hatred Collection, which bundles the base game with the Vessel of Hatred and Lord of Hatred expansions. It supports cross-play and cross-progression functionality, allowing players to maintain progress and play across multiple platforms.
Blizzard also announced the forthcoming addition of the Amazon class to Diablo 4, set for release in the first half of 2027. This update will introduce four distinct Amazon builds: Champion, Skirmisher, Ranger, and Commander, expanding player choices for character development.
The reveal of Season of Hell’s Legacy and the Switch 2 launch formed part of Blizzard’s BlizzCon 2026 opening ceremony, which included other announcements such as Diablo 5, World of Warcraft: Forever, and a new open-world StarCraft shooter.
Diablo 4 is currently available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S, with the Switch 2 version joining the lineup on 15 September alongside the new season content.
