Console Owners ‘aren’t getting less’ Battlefield

Patrick Liu, DICE Producer has today assured console owners that they won’t be getting any less of a game compared to PC owners.

With fewer online players and smaller maps you would be inclined to disagree, but Patrick said the following to Edge magazine regarding console gamers; “They’re definitely not getting less of a game.”

“It has the same amount of destruction and the same amount of visual fidelity. It’a also a misconception I’ve seen on the internet that the console version won’t have jets – that’s not true.

“We’ve scaled the maps accordingly for console so it makes the pacing all right and the balancing is good,” Liu added. “If you play a big Conquest map then the map is balanced accordingly.”

We also heard from DICE CEO Patrick Soderlund who revealed that they’ve tried 256 players on Battlefield 3; “A lot of people ask us about 64 versus 128 or 256 players. Technically, we can go to 256, we’ve tried it,” Patrick said. “We play tested with 128. You’ve got to make a game that’s fun to play and, arguably, we think that the most fun you can have is when it’s between 32 and 40 players.”

So who here thinks 24 players is enough over LIVE and the PSN?

Despite a long absence from gaming, during which he spent many a night reminiscing about the glory days on Halo 2, Matty is now back online smashing his way through Black Ops and soon enough Gears of War 3 and Battlefield 3.
