Codemasters have today announced the official title of the next game in the Colin McRae rally franchise. Instead of sticking with the traditional number at the end of the title, this outing will instead be called Colin McRae: DIRT in PAL territories and DIRT: Colin McRae Off-Road in NTSC territories.
Codies also announced the first details on the locations that will be included in the game. While they didn’t go into full detail, they did say to expect all 12.4 miles of the formidable Pikes Peak International Hillclimb (an event in which competitors climb 1,439 metres from top to bottom), as well as many rallies from across the globe.
CM: DIRT will feature the traditional point-to-point rally events, as well as Hillclimb challenges in which the car is never more than a few feet from a huge vertical cliff drop, Rally Cross events in which the surface changes from dirt to tarmac and Dakar style Rally Raid events with 4×4’s and Trucks and of course all will be playable through Xbox Live
The team have been working hard at securing car licenses. Don’t expect the full WRC line-up, but there will be 2WD, 4WD, Classic and RWD cars. Codies are also using a new damage engine “that ensures players experience every bump in the track, every loose rock, every inch of shifting dirt through the reactive environments”.
Colin McRae: DIRT is expected in 2007.
