EA Games have today confirmed that Burnout will be returning to the Xbox 360 in 2007. Very little information has been released on Burnout 5, however, Alex Ward, Director of game design at Criterion said…
“Burnout 5 is a complete reinvention of the series, built from the ground up for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. To create truly next-generation gameplay, we needed to create a truly next-generation game, from top to bottom.”
The new game is based in Paradise City – “the ultimate seamless racing battleground”. The game is said to have no menus, suggesting a Test Drive Unlimited style open world. EA also stated “Every intersection is a potential crash junction and every alleyway is an opportunity to rack up moving violations.”
Upon arrival at Paradise City, players will get their own driving license which will list all of their destructive expliots behind the wheel. You’ll work you way up the ladder until you get the chance to face off against the “city’s most infamous burners”.
Criterion are hoping to make full use of the next-generation technology available to them, even allowing players to “literally rip their cars in half”. Sounds like fun, as always. Look out for more on Burnout 5 when we get it.
